What is Soap? How does it remove dirt and dust from cloth?

SOAP:

The sodium and potassium salts of fatty acids are called soaps.

The acid components usually are satiric Acid C17 H35 COOH.

FUNCTION OF SOAP:

Dirt particles on skin or cloth become surrounded by a layer of- an oil or fat. Water cannot alone disperse greasy globules. When Soap is applied to cloth or skin (in presence of water) soap solution dissolves the oil and thus the dust and dirt particles are set free in the water. These are then rinsed away by water.
