What is chlamydomonas? Describe its properties.



 

Chlamydomonas:

It is a freshwater alga, growing in still water of ponds, pools, ditches, lakes etc.

Characteristics:

(i) It is unicellular, eukaryotic green and motile. It is pear-shaped

(ii) It has the distinct nucleus in the cytoplasm which is enclosed in the cell wall. It moves with flagella.

(iii) It contains chloroplast and performs photosynthesis.

(iv) There is an orange colored Eyespot and two small contractile vacuoles.
