Oxidation:

(1) Addition of oxygen to an element takes place. 

(2) Loss of electrons from an atom takes place. 

(3) Removal of hydrogen from a compound occurs. 

 

Reduction:

(1) Removal of oxygen from a compound takes place. 

(2) Gain electron by an element takes place. 

(3) Addition of Hydrogen into a substance occurs.
