What is a Plotter? The different kinds of plotters and their functions.
The plotter is a special kind of output device that prints graphics on papers, which includes drawing, graphs, making maps, plotting engineering drawings and machine component Plotters differ from the printer in that they draw lines using a pen. As a result, they can produce c..ontinuous lines, whereas printers can only simulate lines by printing a closely spaced series of dots.
Plotters can be of two types:
(1) Pen Plotters
(2) Electrostatic Plotters.
(1) Pen Plotters:
Pen Plotters have an ink pen attached to draw the images, and electrostatic plotters work similarly to a laser printer. Pen plotters are further divided into two types:
(i) Drum Plotter
(ii) Flatbed Plotter.
(2) Electrostatic Plotters:
An electrostatic plotter produces a faster Image by charging the paper with high voltage. This voltage attracts toner, which is then melted on the paper with heat. This type of plotter is fast, but the quality is generally considered to be poor when compared to pen plotters.
