What do you mean by programming language? How many types of languages are there?

PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE:

The language that computer can understand or way to communicate with the computer. The programming language can be classified into five levels or generations.

 

FIRST Generation Language:

Low-level/Machine language is based on binary numbers. The low-level language is binary language (0, 1) used for an electronic purpose in circuits. Also known as “Machine Language” or “Binary Language” ·

 

SECOND Generation Language:

Assembly language. Every hardware has its own assembly language but looks similar to each other.

 

THIRD Generation Language:

High-level languages are, High-Level language mean computer programming languages (are normally in English characters). Also called “User’s Language”. e.g.: FORTRAN, GWBASIC, APL, PASCAL, COBOL, SNOBOL, PROLOG, PU1, Ada, Modula-2, LISP, and RPG.

 

FOURTH Generation language:

They based on database e.g. FOCUS, RAMIS, NATURAL, LISP SQL etc.

 

FIFTH Generation Language:

Based on Al (Artificial intelligence) and VR (Virtual Reality) some popular programs are e.g. ELIZA, DOCTOR, DEN ORAL, SAM, MYCIN, PUFF, AM, RLL, FOXBASE, ORACLE, PARADOX etc.
