Four differences between Covalent Bond and Coordinate Covalent Bond.

Covalent Bond

  • (i) It is formed by mutual sharing of electrons, between similar or dissimilar atom.
  • This bond may be polar or Non-polar.
  • In the shared pair of electrons, one electron is given by each atom.
  • The covalent bond is associated with an only covalent character because there is no electron transfer.

Coordinate Covalent Bond

  • It is formed by one-sided sharing of electrons, between unlike atoms only.
  • This bond is always polar.
  • Both the electron of the pair is given by one atom only.
  • It is associated with the ionic and covalent character because of partial transfer of electrons.
