Experiment to show that chlorophyll Is necessary for photosynthesis

Experiment to show that chlorophyll Is necessary for photosynthesis.

A variegated leaf i.e. a leaf in which chlorophyll is present only in patches is be taken. First, such a potted plant is kept in dark for a couple of days, for detaching the leaves.

Such a leaf is removed and tested with Iodine for presence Of Starch.

photosynthesis

Only those parts previously green turn blue and other parts turn brown.

Result:

The experiment shows that Photosynthesis takes place only in green parts of a leaf where chlorophyll is present.

(ii) Experiment To show that light is necessary for Photosynthesis:

A potted plant is first distracted by keeping in dark for two days. Then a leaf is wrapped in black paper keeping a gap of L – Shape. It is then exposed to sunlight for several hours. Then it is tested with Iodine.

Experiment To show that light is necessary for Photosynthesis

It is seen that only the L – Shaped gap and the part exposed to light turned blue showing formation of starch. The covered part of deaf turned brown showing absence of starch.

Result:

The experiment shows that Sunlight is essential for Photosynthesis.
