Define Oxidation by three different ways with one suitable example for each.



Oxidation can be defined in three ways as:

(i) Oxidation as the addition of Oxygen:

Oxygen combines with other elements to produce oxides. e.g. Rusting of Iron

(ii) Oxygen as removal of Hydrogen:

Oxidation is also the process in which Hydrogen is removed from a compound.

(iii) Oxidation as removal of Electrons:

Oxidation is also the process in which there is a loss of electrons.
